The objective of the Stratford and Warwick Waterways Trust is the promotion through to construction of the extension of the Avon Navigation from Stratford to Warwick and the formation of a junction with the Grand Union Canal. This project entails the restoration of an ancient river navigation, part of a scheme first authorized by Charles the first in 1635. The benefits to the modern waterways network and to the Midlands tourist economy are substantial.
